Thumper shares a secret

For the Christmas family draw this year I had my grandma. I remembered having a discussion about the Disney movie Bambi with her, my mom and my aunt sometime in the past year and she exclaimed how much she loved Thumper, so I figured I'd make her a painting of 'my' version of Bambi and Thumper instead of a Disneyfied one. Same characters, same personalities as the Disney story, slightly different look. It's a belated gift, but here's the preliminary sketch for it (mucky scan, sorry, no Photoshop at home to clean it up). I'll update with the final in a few days.

Overhead Sketches

Our introductory assignment for interpretive illustration this year is to overhear a segment (three-four lines) of exchanged conversation between two strangers and interpret that into a picture. It's fun, but very difficult. Too many people know how to use appropriate indoor voices and it's easy to mishear what they say. I thought these two through a lot but I'm gunna try to develop one more image for both of these conversation pieces. Edit: after uploading these I looked at the digital copy of the first picture and added glasses to the ape-teacher.

Lake Ontario

I biked to the comics store, bought my Wednesday comics. Then I biked to the beach. I sketched in acrylics on a weenie 6x8 canvas board and I art-creeped some guy who was swimming in the yucky water.

Dr. Sketchy themed session: Tank Girl

Last night I went to my first Dr. Sketchy life drawing session and it OWNED. I'm seriously wishing I had read some Tank Girl comics before attending, but it was fun regardless. Here are some ballpoint highlights:

Zombie Hackysac

Inspired by a few of the powerfully awesome people I hang out with (aka Zombie Graham, Zombie Josh, and Zombie Andrew). Graham has a didgeridoo-leg, if you're wondering what that is. I'm going to do a final version in watercolour soon.

How much is that daddy in the window?

I love seeing fathers interacting with their kids, so I sketched one looking at puppies at a pet store with his daughter. I have a few days off next week, so I'm planning to refine this and paint in oils then.

This is for all those rare and wonderful people in my life who've been there for me unconditionally. I can't express how much that means to me.

Good Friday

I biked and walked around Old Oakville for six hours today on a whim and documented it here. Then I bought a movie for seven bucks (The Happening, I haven't seen it before). Then I bought bananas, oranges, granola bars, peanut butter, an avocado, and a couple cans of tuna. Then I watched a chick flick with my roommate (which she also bought today for seven dollars) and I ate a creme egg. Happy Easter, everybody.

Simplicity

We were told to make line drawings of a mechanically shaped object and an organically shaped item respectively, on separate sheets of 8.5x11. Without thinking I did my gameboy and a bunch of bananas. I completely forgot I had both in my biography, which just goes to show how easily I can be understood.

Mister Man

This is a study for the main character of a comic idea I'm developing. I don't know his name yet.
